My Story: Candice Davis
I'm one of the lucky ones...
I was diagnosed with three brain tumours in September 2014. All three benign, all three operable. It was terrifying. Facing three 10 hour surgeries and the risks attached to each operation was tough.
But I was lucky.
I had an excellent surgeon, Carl Hardwidge, with a brilliant team. I had wonderful support from my friends and family. I've had all three tumours removed and I'm grateful to be alive and relatively unharmed. I've lost some sight, hearing and sensation but I'm still able to function as normal.
In October last year a small remnant of one of the tumours started to grow causing me to lose some of my eyesight. I have just undergone a course of cyberknife radiation and am hopeful that the last bit of tumour has been shrunk.
I signed up to run the Brighton Marathon on marathon day 2017 but due to the effects of the radiation I'll be walking instead of running.
My amazing, wonderful and brave friends; Amanda Lorenzani, Lou Murie, Jo Lloyd, Jo Phillimore, Becky Habba, Caroline Chaloner, Cindy Graham, Meg Karmani, Victoria Nixon, Jo Bunday and Claire Tucker, will be joining me in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity.
Over 9,000 people are diagnosed with primary brain tumours in the UK every year, not everyone is as lucky as me: 50% of these are cancerous and many sufferers lose function as a result of treatment.
We want to raise awareness of brain tumours and make a donation to the charity working to support patients and their families during one of the most frightening periods of their lives.
