Marc Abraham OBE, or ‘Marc the Vet’ as he's more commonly known, is an award-winning Veterinary Surgeon, Broadcaster, Author, Animal Welfare Campaigner, and one of Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s Animal Champions.
Marc campaigns extensively for animal welfare issues here in the UK and US; including promoting rescue pet adoption, responsible dog and cat breeding, as well as actively advocating to end the cruel puppy farming industry, starting with banning commercial 3rd party puppy and kitten dealers. In 2009 he set up PupAid, a national puppy farming awareness campaign featuring an annual fun celeb-judged dog show in London, as well as being responsible for three of the biggest pet welfare government e-petitions of all time, supported by his relentless lobbying of politicians across the UK. Marc is also the co-founder and secretariat of the All-Party Parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group (APDAWG).
In June 2019, after a 10-year campaign led by Marc and over 300 visits to Westminster, the Government passed ‘Lucy’s Law’ into English legislation, making all breeders accountable, and helping provide transparency for all prospective puppy and kitten buyers. Furthermore, in September 2021 Lucy’s Law also came into law in both Scotland and Wales as well, meaning that commercial 3rd party puppy and kitten dealers are now banned across the whole of Great Britain; so anyone wanting a puppy or kitten must either deal directly with the breeder and see the mum interacting with pups or kittens, or choose to adopt from a rescue shelter instead.
We can’t thank Marc enough for his tireless campaigning, as well as his incredible support for our mission at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home too.
