We help people with learning disabilities to enjoy a valued life

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the Edinburgh marathon in May and hiking the Three Peaks Challenge in June in memory of my younger brother Shaun Eddie and also, to hopefully raise some money for Cornerstone.

Cornerstone was first established in Northeast Scotland in
1980, supporting adults, young people and children who have a variety of needs including physical and learning disabilities, autism, and dementia.
Cornerstone provides tailored, individual packages of care which focus on enabling people with complex care needs, to live the best possible life.

My brother Shaun was supported by Cornerstone for 10
years or so until he sadly and suddenly passed away in 2021.
Cornerstone were so good with, and for, Shaun during his time in supported living with them. Safe to say he was a bit of a handful when he was younger, needed a lot of additional support and attention.....he went from there and grew into a confident, independent young man doing most things for himself, with assistance from his support workers  at Cornerstone.

Anyone that knew Shaun, will testify to him being the life and soul of the party, talking to everyone and anyone, still just as cheeky as when he was a kid. Always laughing and smiling and winding someone up.
See, I had the fortune (or misfortune
😃😂) of sharing a room with Shaun....... and selfishly one of the things I'm most grateful to Cornerstone for, is that it is down to them that he stopped terrorising me and destroying my stuff, no one mention CD's or aftershave please. 😩🤣 Our sister Kelly seemed to get off scot-free from memory, but she may remember it differently ha-ha. Seriously though, seeing him grow up from that chaotic kid into an independent man, really made our whole family so proud of him.

With regards to the two events I've signed up for I enjoy both running and hiking, so I get to tick a couple of things off the bucket list and hopefully raise some money for a worthy cause at the same time.

The Three Peaks challenge involves hiking up the tallest mountain in Scotland, Wales and England; Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike, for a total 23 miles of walking and 10,052ft of vertical ascent, all within 24 hours.

If I can raise a few quid and it helps Cornerstone keep going with the great work they do and provide the excellent support they provided for Shaun over the years, then I'll be a happy man.

I understand times are tough for everyone at the moment so any and all support would be absolutely amazing and greatly appreciated.
