Story

2012 Year 2 of the Coast to Coast challenge. This year Marc & Steve have been joined by Stuart to tackle.......

The Southern Upland way Britain’s first official coast to coast footpath opened in 1984. ( Follow our FACE BOOK page click here) There will be a day by blog as we tackle the route and info updates on fund raising prior to the walk

Follow Our website for further information www.walkingthebeat.co.uk

It crosses a tremendous variety of scenery and to walk it all is an unforgettable experience taking in 212 miles of wild and relatively remote stretches of Southern Scotland.

The route begins in Portpatrick on the west coast and concludes on the east coast at Cockburnspath.

The challenge begins September 21 and concludes October 1 during which the team hope to round the walk up to 220 miles over 10.5 days (21 miles per day)

Initially the walk was due to take place during May 2012 however one of the team ‘Marc’ damaged both cartilage and Cruciate ligaments in his left knee during the late summer of 2011 – some 8 weeks after the Coast to Coast walk of England had been completed--Marc is now 16 weeks post operations and on schedule to be fully fit come the start.

The 3 lads have tweaked the journey to 220 miles and will complete this over 10.5 days which will result in an average daily challenge of 21 miles. The walk will again be for Greyhound Gap.

Gap raise money on a month by month basis just to keep their heads above water with all the hounds that they pay to keep in their care before they can rehabilitate and rehome for a loving retirement.

Rental costs as you can imagine are high and this is where this justgiving account comes into play....Gap are looking to raise £100.000 to secure a deposit on their very own premises. They have raised £34.500 thus far and all proceeds from our walk will go towards this fund.

Let's beat last years total of 2550.00 !
