Lewy body dementia is the second most common cause of age-related dementia, affecting around 130,000 people in the UK. We raise awareness of the disease, provide information to patients and carers, and fund research so that in future it can be more easily diagnosed and treated.

Story

I've impulsively decided to enter my first 10k race - I'll be running in the Southport 10k Legacy Event on Sunday 4th September.

The charity I'll be fundraising for is the Lewy Body Society

http://www.lewybody.co.uk/

I chose this charity because one of my relatives was recently diagnosed with Dementia with Lewy Bodies. It's a little-known disease, but it's devastating. Here are a few facts:

- In the UK approximately 100,000 people are thought to suffer from DLB, but due to a lack of awareness - people are often misdiagnosed with either Alzheimer's/Parkinson's disease

- People with DLB experience extreme swings from alertness to confusion, vivid and recurring visual hallucinations and some experience problems with movement.

Anything you could give, no matter how small, would contribute towards raising awareness and funding research into this condition.

Thanks for reading :-)
