Douglas Macmillan Hospice (Dougie Mac) is the only hospice in Staffordshire supporting Children, Young Adults & Adults. Care is given to patients who are living with a life-limiting illness at our two sites and in the community. We also provide support for patients families and their carers.

Back from the Atlas mountains after a fantastic trip. We didn't quite summit because of very extreme weather but we did manage 4000 metres. A brilliant, if tough, experience so thank you to everyone who donated. The final figure raised will be around £1300 including gift aid which i'm sure will be gratefully received by the Douglas Macmillan.

Well, the 75% mark is reached with just under 12 weeks to go, which is great. I must mention a noticeable offline donation of £100 by Leon Jenks, thanks fella, much appreciated!

On Tuesday the 10th May, 2011, along with a group from Charity Challenge, I will set off to reach the summit of the highest peak of Morocco's Atlas mountains, Jbel Toubkal. The peak stands 4167m above sea level and is one of the highest peaks in North Africa.

The aim is to raise as much money as possible for The Douglas Macmillan hospice. The hospice provides specialist palliative care for people facing cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, as well as offering help and support for their families and carers. They rely heavily on voluntary donations in order to help patients both at home and in the hospice.

In 1999 my father, Luis Belpomer, spent two weeks in the hospice and received home visits thereafter. My family and I were hugely thankful for the excellent treatment he received and this trek is my way of giving something back.

And so it begins. I will be using this page, along with twitter and facebook, to keep donators up to date with my progress with regard to training, fundraising and the trek itself.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Adios!
