Guinness World Record Attempt 2016 15,000ft Skydive · 20 June 2016
Many of you know that, a year ago, I suffered an accident with multiple trauma that was life threatening. Most of my injury was through massive internal impact.
My lung collapsed due to broken ribs, my left wrist was shattered, but most worryingly I suffered major internal bleeding. I was in a remote location and the ambulance had no way of reaching me.
The paramedics trekked to reach me, they best guessed a broken pelvis with arterial damage. My abdomen was enlarged and solid. I was vomiting fresh blood. The air ambulance could only land a mile away due to the hazardous location.
The team of 7 amazing paramedics stabilised me, then carried me up the steep hillside to the ambulance which then in turn transported me to the awaiting Air Ambulance. Within 15 minutes I was lying on a bed in the Regional Trauma Centre and an expert Trauma Team started to patch me up.
By normal ambulance that would have been 50 minutes later. But the journey would have worsened my internal bleeding. The internal bleeding was discovered to be from a shattered kidney, due to the impact.
The trauma team and nursing team did an amazing job over the following 10 days, including dealing with me crashing on them.
Here is an amazing fact:
The Air Ambulance is funded 100% through charity, they receive no government or lottery funding. You will never predict when you will need this service. But they were there, when I was in a time of real need.
They are there in a time that can bridge the gap between life and death, between full recovery and disablement.
I will be taking part in a Guinness World Record Attempt of the most 15,000ft tandem skydives, the highest possible without oxygen, within 24hrs, by 333 skydivers.
Please forego a coffee for a day, donate a few pounds, it all adds up. Thank you.
By the way, I am terrified of heights. I mean, proper terrified!
That's what makes it extra worthwhile. ;-)
My deepest and heartfelt thanks to my family, friends and colleagues that support me daily xxxx
In memory of all those who have not been so lucky.
