Marcus Wood is running the Reading Half Marathon 2013 to help support his brother in law Toby Davey to compete at the IFDS World and International Blind Fleet Sailing Championships in Japan this May.
Toby is a keen sailor and has represented Great Britain at four of the last five World Blind Fleet Racing Championships and in the last two International Blind Match Racing Championships and even when he married his wife Sara (Marcus wife’s sister) in 2008 they charted a yacht for part of their honeymoon, sailing round the Greek Islands.
Toby is currently training hard as part of the Great British Blind Sailing Team which will be going to Japan in May 2013 for the next World and International Blind Fleet Racing Championships and is looking for help to get him there. The money Marcus raises will go to support Toby by covering the cost of his flight and accommodation in Japan and any extra money raised will go towards other team members. The Great British Blind Sailing Team which will be sending a squad of 13 sailors to Japan, six blind sailors, 6 sighted sailors and a Team Captain.
The championships are sailed in three categories and each team is made up of two blind sailors and two sighted sailors. One of the Blind Sailors helms the boat with the other main sheet trimming with one sighted tactician and one sighted crew. The sighted tactician is not allowed to touch anything on the boat and is there purely to do the tactics with the two blind sailors sailing the boat with the other sighted sailor trimming the jib.
