Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Perinatal mental illness affects 10-20% of women. However it is thought that up to 50% of cases are undetected.
As a charity Support2gether have supported over 1000 families in the 10 years that they have been active. They need funds to continue to provide support to those mothers and families affected by perinatal mental illness.
I was able to avail of support accessing their coaching through the challenge programme when I found myself pregnant and about to give birth to my first baby during a global pandemic. This programme provided me with one to one support and mentoring as I was unable to access all the normal programmes available to expectant mothers.
Becoming a new mother is challenging in any circumstance. With the added challenges of the pandemic I found it difficult not having the normal supports of family and friends, not being able to access support groups or go to baby classes which has made my maternity leave even more isolating.
I have found the current lockdown the most difficult and it has been hard to find the motivation everyday. To help with my motivation I decided to set myself a challenge and take part in Support2gethers Pramathon.
During the month of March I plan to walk 5km every day. I believe this challenge will help me to get through the last few weeks of lockdown while also benefiting my physical and mental health. And while doing so hopefully raise money for this wonderful charity Support2gether.
