Co-operation Ireland - Trek Kilimanjaro · 1 October 2010 ·

Co-operation Ireland is a peace-building charity working to advance mutual understanding and respect between the people of Northern Ireland and of the Republic of Ireland to build a shared and peaceful future. It gives people the opportunity to meet and share experiences and opinions with those of a different religion or tradition.

Story

On Sunday 3rd October I started my climb of Mt Kilimanjaro.  Absolutely nothing could have prepared me for the gruelling days that followed, and I can honestly say that without your sponsorship I may never have completed my challenge.  We started our final ascent on Friday 8th October from base camp Kibo at 11pm, arrived at the summit Gilman’s point around 6am, weakened and wretched and what possessed me to continue on around the crater edge to the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak around 2 hours later I cannot tell you!     32 hours from the start of the acclimatisation at Kibo, we climbed down thoroughly exhausted, battling altitude sickness.  I have so far received almost £4,000 in sponsorship and I thank you for your generosity.  The money donated will go to my two chosen charities of Co-operation Ireland and the Eve Appeal.
