I am honored to run the 2023 London marathon in memory of my father James Feeney, who passed away on October 25, 2022.
He passed away due to complications from Parkinson’s disease and dementia which is why I decided to fundraise for Alzheimer’s Research, UK.
I know what its like to have someone you love disappear slowly from who they used to be and to lose them again physically.
I am fortunate to have had 41 wonderful years with him but that time doesn’t make up for my loss. My Popstar who is shining down on me, taught me so many things that even now I am just beginning to realize. Hard work, determination, responsibility, humility, compassion, dedication, commitment, how to be a good human, and to enjoy every moment are just a few. He was unforgettable to those who were lucky enough to meet him. He would do anything for me and even on his worst days, I always felt his love.
Towards the end, he could barely speak and make sense. Our time would be made up of looking at albums, watching old movies, and musical activities. I would play songs and we would sing together, he’d bang the tambourine, and dance. This kept him smiling. "You are my sunshine" is the family song (nursery addition). We adopted the family name "Sunshine" for all of us. I am not sure how it came about but between my pop, mom, and sister, we are each other’s sunshine because we always bring each other light even in dark times.
Thank you for taking the time to read my page. Please consider donating to my run in hopes that one day there will be a cure f
or all types of dementia and other neurological diseases and that family members don't have to watch their loved ones slip away..
