Story

On 12 October, I’m running the Royal Parks Half Marathon, raising funds for Cancer Research UK and in support of my wonderful Dad who is in the midst of treatment for a second relapse of lymphoma. Thank you in advance for your support and donating whatever you can.

To understand the ways that your donations can help, I spoke to Dr Chris Bailey, a clinical research fellow at the Francis Crick Institute and Academic Clinical Lecturer at UCLH. He told me:

"As a clinical academic specialising in haematology and oncology, I've seen first hand how philanthropic support transforms the landscape of cancer care. The progress made in lymphoma research is a powerful example of this impact. While once a largely incurable disease, donations have fuelled ground-breaking discoveries, leading to the development of immunotherapies like CAR T-cell therapy and targeted antibodies that have dramatically improved patient outcomes and survival rates. Your contribution is not just a donation; it's a vital investment that directly funds the innovative clinical trials, the foundational laboratory research, and the platform for researchers around the globe to work as a team to unravel cancer’s complex biology. This support empowers us to discover new treatment pathways, reduce the harsh side effects of current therapies, and ultimately bring hope to the thousands of patients and their families facing a cancer diagnosis. As a research community we have come so far but still have much to do. Every penny helps accelerate the pace of progress."

Thanks again for any and all support.
