Story
In 2013 our lovey Bella came to live with us, a shy, fearful and 'I don't trust humans' type of dog. She had been found by the Derry pound in 2012, roaming the streets, signs of maltreatment and trauma. At that time she was on her last number of days, as being rehomed from the pound (within the week) is not easy when you are sitting at the back of the pen shaking and avoiding eye contact.
The Rainbow Rehoming Centre realised this and stepped in and saved Bella. She was supported, had vet visits, treatments and was fed and watered everyday for six months. Yes, she wasn't an easy dog to rehome. This cost money which, when you add together all the dogs that they take in becomes an enormous amount, fully dependent on donations from people like you.
PLEASE DONATE, the RRC desperately need your help now, in the same way as Bella and other dogs have needed and continues to need them. Donations will go directly to the Rainbow Rehoming Centre to help more dogs like Bella. (I am doing this as my own initiative and not on behalf of RRC)
Continuing Bella's story, for anyone interested to read on. I saw Bella on their Web page and read her profile, a couple of visits and I was certain, she would become our second dog. After getting a vet reference and pictures of where she would live, we were collecting her. I still remember her shaking and crawling along the ground and the wonderful volunteer staff saying "have realistic expectations, she may never do doggy stuff, she might live out her life behind the sofa." I think they were worried we hadn't realised the extent of her fear and that we would change our minds and bring her back
We were determined to give her back being a dog and that was gradually built up trough practice, stretching trust and giving respect. She loved other dogs so got on great with our first dog Tink and later arrivals Max and Yogi, she could be a bit bossy, but it was lovely to see her confidence grow.
Six months ago her health started to deteriorate more than just old age. She was finding walking, getting up and generally staying awake difficult, and she was in pain, even though she kept much of that to her self. We had to make the hard decision to let her go to sleep and on the 2nd of June 2023 she passed on peacefully and dignified, aged 15. She is so very much missed but we had 10 wonderful years together that was made possible because of RRC.
So again please if you can donate to the Rainbow Rehoming Centre 🌈 please do, in memory of Bella. You will make a difference as Bella made a difference to us. We learnt a lot about patience, love and laugh with her in our midst. Bella 2008 - 2023, always loved never forgotten ♥.
