Story
Hello all,
Some of you may know that I am the “proud owner” of Annie – my German Shepherd Dog.
She is a rescue dog and has been with us for good few years (and she has seen off many a postmen!).
The charity that we got her from are really struggling and particularly after that they had to take in 17 “COVID” GSD dogs – dogs that were acquired while the COVID pandemic was raging and now these dogs are no longer wanted/needed.
The charity is also gearing up for an influx of dogs from Ukraine – I know that they have been approached to give shelter to such dogs.
We, within the charity are trying to raise much needed money for the upkeep and running of the everyday care for the dogs, and have come up with the idea for a 7.5-mile walk with our dogs. You might say – what is so special about walking a dog – the only “special” thing is that the dogs that will be taking part (and their owners!!!) are of certain age – all the dogs that are walking are above 10-years old.
Big dogs, like GSDs do not live much over 10-12 years, so you can imagine all those “deca-generians” strutting their stuff for miles and miles (and don’t forget the “generian” owners too!) Annie is 13 years old and will be the second oldest
dog on the walk. We also have Angus – the springer spaniel - who is 12 years old and is coming as well to “beat the drum”.
And lastly, you might ask – why 7.5 miles – we will aim to walk 10 miles, but at the same time we are aware that this is a long distance and the dogs are not spring-chickens (nor are the owners!), so we will aim for less, if we get to 10 miles – well, there will be lots more treats for the survivors (human and canine).
I will be very grateful if you feel that you could sponsor Annie, Angus and myself.
Thank you all in advance.
