Pakistan has declared devastating floods a “national emergency” after nearly 1,000 people died and more than 30 million are “badly affected”.
More than 33 million people have been displaced. Pakistan is currently experiencing extremely heavy rainfall, resulting in catastrophic flash flooding across the country. According to local authorities the death toll since mid-June has reached nearly 1,000, with 1,456 injured and millions displaced. Many parts of Pakistan have become inaccessible, and rescuers are struggling to evacuate thousands of stranded people from affected areas.
