I have completed the 1000km (621 miles) Running Challenge I set myself but have decided to continue running until I complete the Vitality Big Half Marathon in London on 22nd August.

I have been running to help raise funds for research into breast cancer, a cause close to my heart. My first run for this challenge was a 5 km on the 28th November and I have completed a mix of 5 km, 10km and half-marathons. 

I have now also signed up for the Virtual London Marathon in October 2021 to see if I can extend my endurance to complete a much longer run. 

1000 km is the equivalent of running from my home town in Hitchin to John O'Groats in Scotland and I have posted a map of the notional route in the image gallery of this page.

The money raised through the "Breast Cancer Now £1000 Challenge" is specifically to help fund research into secondary breast cancer which has had comparatively smaller funding over the years.

The researchers need lab time and resources  to understand how primary breast cancer  moves to other parts of the body, why the immune system doesn’t attack breast cancer cells that are spreading, how these cells can hibernate for many years before reawakening and form secondary tumours. And hopefully with this knowledge, help to develop treatments that are more effective in both treating and helping to prevent breast cancer from spreading to secondary sites.

I am using Strava to record my progress and all runs can be seen below. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click "show more" to see the earlier runs, the most recent runs are at the top of the feed. There is a counter on this page that tracks the "running total" so far.
