Hello all,
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my fundraising page and for any donations you might be able to make to this amazing cause!
In September I will be going to Nicaragua for 3 months to volunteer as a team leader for Raleigh International as part of the International Citizen Service (ICS). The ICS is a government funded scheme which aims to bring young people from around the world to fight poverty together. The ICS will pay for my flights, accommodation, food, etc. in exchange I have to raise £800 for Raleigh International. ALL the money donated will go directly to the charity and will have a direct positive impact on the project I will be working on in Nicaragua.
Nicaragua is amazingly rich in biodiversity and culture, but has suffered a great deal. It is considered the second poorest nation in the Northern Hemisphere and has undergone great amounts of political unrest, dictatorships and financial crisis. Raleigh currently runs 6 projects in Nicaragua; each of these falls into one of the following sectors: education, health, livelihoods, sexual health, strengthening civil society and the environment. As a team leader I will be co-leading a group of 12 volunteers, half from the UK and half from Nicaragua. We will be submerging ourselves in Nicaraguan culture by living in the communities where the projects are based and by working closely with the locals in order to set up long-lasting, deep impact projects.
£800 can go a very long way in a country like Nicaragua. Your donations will help these projects to continue and to grow, and you can be sure that I will work hard to achieve the best results. It doesn’t matter how big or how small, every little bit helps, so please do your good deed for the day and help me reach my target.
Thank you once again!
Mariana
