Help Support Alexander's Fur-Ever Friend & Companion

Little Angels Service Dogs · 10 January 2020 to 31 December 2023 ·
Many of you have met our 7-year-old son, Alexander or at
least you have been part of his adventures via Facebook while helping to raise money for Project 8p Foundation. In 2020, our family began to explore ways to not only raise awareness for Alexander’s rare genetic diagnosis, Chromosome 8p Inversion Duplication and
Deletion Syndrome but to also find ways to support his developmental growth. In addition to his 8p diagnosis, the medical team has also added Autism to his medical profile. His neurological differences are reflective in his developmental delays, his absence of speech despite years of speech therapy, low muscle tone and safety concerns.
Alexander has no fear and doesn’t understand the dangers of running into the street, climbing on countertops or touching hot or sharp objects.
In recent years it has become increasingly challenging to manage Alexander’s behaviors. It is difficult for him to walk any distances without wanting to run off so we secure him in his stroller or we ensure that someone is always available to stay at home with him. Neither of these solutions are ideal for the future as Alexander is outgrowing his stroller and as a family, we want to be able to go out to the mall together, go to the park or even eat at a restaurant together without causing a scene with meltdowns
from anxiety.
While exploring our options, we discovered Alexander was allergic to dogs. We learned that Little Angels Service Dogs have a hypoallergenic goldendoodle dog breed that can support Alexander and our family – minus the itchy watery eyes and sneezing. For
Alexander, his special companion will be tether-trained, which helps prevent Alexander from the danger of running off in parking lots, stores, or across the street. His dog will provide deep pressure therapy (like a firm hug), which is a proven therapy to help Alexander calm down and feel safe in moments that cause him anxiety and to help him sleep at night. And if for any reason Alexander decides to take off to explore on his own without us, his furry companion will be
trained and able to find Alexander by scent! These skills aren’t the only ones though. Alexander will be able to learn how to take care of someone else – feeding his pal each day and learning how to
brush him/her. When other kids around him are playing and he is feeling like sitting and watching, his pal will be right there with him – giving him perhaps the greatest gift of all – constant companionship in a world much different than yours and mine.
As you can imagine it is not cheap to raise and train a Medical Service Dog. Many resources are required to raise and train a service dog. These resources cost $38,000 per dog. With your help Little Angels Service Dogs can provide these dogs to kids like Alexander.
