Story

On Sunday 18 November, I am going to shave off all my hair – 2ft long for two lovely twins who both need support to walk.

3 year-old twins Jack and Rebecca are rays of sunshine, ‘They are bright, happy, children who get stuck in at their local playgroup, have learned their colours and numbers and love to read. We are so proud of them. Put them with any bunch of kids their age and you wouldn’t easily pick them out – except that when the running around starts, Jack and Rebecca have to crawl or grab their walking frames. It’s heartbreaking to watch them trying to keep up.’

Just after their second birthday, the twins were diagnosed with a form of Cerebral Palsy. A life-changing operation that would help them walk normally is available – but not here in the UK. So the twins’ family and friends have taken on the enormous challenge of raising £100,000 to cover the costs of treatment at St Louis Children’s Hospital in the USA, where a programme for children like Jack and Rebecca is well-established.

‘We know it’s a huge sum,’ But we are hoping our whole community will want to get on board. We have to raise the whole amount – it’s not an option to reach half-way and be able to afford treatment for one of our twins and not the other. How could we possibly choose?’

Jack and Rebecca’s supporters ‘We have planned just about everything we could think of, from sponsored events to pot-smashing, from raffles to race nights – we are determined to do everything we can to give our kids the chance to keep up with their friends. We are just hoping that in these difficult times, we can still inspire people to give the time, the energy and the money that will give Jack and Rebecca the help they need to walk tall.’
