CAAP supports families with disabled children living in Cornwall to access activities during school holidays, carers activities and support for siblings

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I’m doing a 5k run over an inflatable assault course in aid of CAAP.

CAAP is a local charity that provides holiday activities for families of disabled children across Cornwall as well as support and advice to families. They have been a rock to my family the past few years and have kept us going. Recently they hit the headlines worldwide for teaching 75 staff at Newquay airport how to sign in Makaton to better assist passengers with additional needs.

As a single parent to a disabled child, things like holidays can be a very isolating period. Mainstream activities are simply unsuitable  for my son which means we often miss out on things others take for granted. This also means his brother misses out and we can be incredibly lonely at times.

CAAP changed all of that for so many families. They have had children in wheelchairs abseiling, severely physically disabled children snow tubing down ski slopes in giant rubber rings or hoisted up a climbing wall! For my family, we have made lifelong friendships and have people we can now call on in emergencies who totally understand our needs. My children have made friends, as have I.

As well as this, I suffer with a multitude of chronic health conditions that affect my mobility and health daily. I have been working with a specialist personal trainer to help me manage this as it’s going to be incredibly difficult for me and will be exhausting for many, many days after. Some days even walking upstairs is impossible due to my joint inflammation and seizing but I am determined to work through this to pay back to CAAP for all they do for my family.

Please can you help me to help this incredible charity, helping local families of disabled children to grow and survive. Anything you can donate would be amazing but we want to try and raise £500 between us if we can!

My son has to manage a complex mix of autism, adhd , Tourette syndrome and SPD as well as some mobility issues caused by years  of severe and chronic tics and his 8 year old bro can barely get off the sofa so this will be very challenging for us!

Please give whatever you can afford so that this amazing charity can continue to help the growing number of families across Cornwall.
