Story

When my beautiful sister Marie, told myself and my sisters , Bernadette and Ursula that she had cancer. And that it was terminal, I can’t really put in to words the utter devastation we felt. I felt that my whole world had crashed. I couldn’t imagine a world without my sister nor could I imagine losing my partner in crime, my rock and my absolute support.

Marie was our matriarch, the eldest sister and the one that had the softest heart under her outward no nonsense exterior. It was hard to believe or accept that she was living with the knowledge her time was being cut short. She was someone who would always be on the go. Life felt brutal.

During the last weeks of Marie’s life, at the height of the first lockdown, the Marie Curie nurses were doing their job without hesitation and doing it with full support to our family. They were unbelievable. Gentle. Kind. Understanding. There is so much to say of them.

Myself and my sisters are walking to give some way of showing our thanks. It is our pleasure to do this for them in memory of Marie as they did so much for us in our hardest journey. They walked that path with us.

I cannot thank the Marie Curie nurses enough. You’re all truly beautiful xx 💛🌼💛
