Hurricane Matthew is currently causing devastation across the Caribbean, please help us protect the children affected

Story

Ben aged 9 and Ava-Rose aged 5 have been moved by the news reports of the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew and felt they had to do something to help.

Both children enjoy swimming and decided to challenge themselves, with Mum and Dad joining in, to swim as far as they possibly could in at least 1 hour to raise money for Unicef’s Hurricane Matthew appeal.

We are most grateful for your support no matter how big or small.

Thank you.

About Unicef's Hurricane Matthew Appeal:

Hurricane Matthew has torn through the Caribbean, killing and injuring many people, as well as destroying homes, schools and livelihoods. Many people are still missing and more than 200,000 houses have been damaged or completely destroyed.

Haiti, still recovering from the earthquake in 2010, has experienced the worst of the storm. News reports are stating that close to 900 people have been killed, more than 15,000 people have been evacuated and hundreds of houses have been damaged or destroyed. We fear these numbers will continue to rise as we get more information.

Our teams are on the ground now, delivering emergency supplies, including life-saving food, water kits and health care for children affected by the hurricane.

We’re on the ground – but we need your help

Unicef are working with partners to help set up temporary learning spaces and deliver vital supplies so children can continue their education in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane. But we need your help.

Right now, our first priority is to get children and families access to clean water and sanitation facilities to prevent the spread of disease.

In an emergency like this, it’s children who are amongst the most vulnerable, so it’s vital we reach every child in danger.

Please donate now and help keep children safe in Haiti and across the Caribbean.

Funds raised for this appeal will support children affected by Hurricane Matthew. If the funds raised exceed Unicef’s funding requirements for this appeal, the money will go to Unicef UK’s Children’s Emergency Fund.
