Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim 2022 · 9 July 2022 to 10 July 2022 ·
I'm swimming from Boscombe to Bournemouth (or possibly the other way round...!) in just under a month. I am very lucky to be in excellent health, as is all my family - but I know that a lot of it is down to just that - luck.
I'm doing this swim because I can, raising money for all those people who can't because of heart disease. It's a privilege to be fit and healthy, and it feels good to put that fitness to good use. It's the furthest I've ever swam, and I'm trying to fit training in around a toddler and a 3 month old, as well as a (thankfully very flexible) job, so I am sacrificing all my free time to build up the strength and stamina to swim 3km in the open sea.
The British Heart Foundation has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives.
£25 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, so if I reach my target, that's 20 hours of life saving research. You can achieve a lot in that time (and hopefully I'll even manage to finish my swim by then!).
Thanks so much in advance,
Marinel
