Trek to Machu Pichchu · 4 June 2010
In June this year, I will embark upon a trek to Machu Picchu in Peru - an altitude of 4700km. I am doing this not because I've lost my sanity (although I suspect that when I was signing up I had), but to raise money for United Response, a charity that supports people with psychiatric and physical disabilities and provides assistance for them to seamlessly integrate into society. A worthy cause, I'm sure you'll agree.
For those who are not aware, I am an experienced trekker. In 2007, myself, along with 5 other adventurous trekkers (Batul Kaj, Yusouf Kaj, Rama IX Chomoko, Pandeli some-long-Iranian-last-name-agoli and Zoe Nurbhai) spent 3 days trekking the wild jungles of Thailand. Although, at times, I wanted to give up (throwing a tantrum and asking for a helicopter to be called), although my beautiful white trousers ended up the colour of mud (unfortunately more embarassing than it sounds as I spent the majority of the time either sliding or falling on my backside), it is an experience that I enjoyed so thoroughly, I am now excited to embark upon my next adventure, and raising money for such a great charity is an added bonus. Hopefully, with some training beforehand, I'll be able to complete this trek without additional local people being hired to hold my hand, as was the case in Thailand :)
