Story
In April 2010 my Mum Jean Anderson was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and died 15 weeks later, aged 62.
As a family we committed to raising funds for cancer charities in her memory, and in 2011 we raised over £5,000 for a combination of Cancer Research UK and Yorkshire Cancer Research, completing open water swims, 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, marathons and charity walks. In July 2011 I ran the 136-mile Coast to Coast cycle route with my Dad as cycle support - a little over a marathon a day for five days. We continued fundraising in 2012 to reach the £6,000 mark.
We have always been determined to continue fundraising as a lasting legacy to Mum. This year I am focusing on raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Care by completing 100 miles of races in 2013. At the time of writing, I have completed:
The Askern 10 Mile Race
Haweswater Half Marathon
Edinburgh Half Marathon
North Lincolnshire Half Marathon
Humber Bridge Half Marathon
The Great North Run (Half Marathon)
The final race of the year is my biggest challenge: the 26.2 miles of the inaugural Yorkshire Marathon in York on 20th October.
We have been staggered by people's generosity over the last three years; anything you can spare would be hugely appreciated, and would help support the excellent work done by Macmillan.
With very best wishes and thanks
Mark, on behalf of the Anderson family
