North Devon Hospice provides free care and support to individuals and their loved ones who are faced with the impact of a life-threatening illness. Everyday we help over 100 people, either in their own homes or at Deer Park, completely free of charge.

Story

When I turned 40 earlier this year I decided change was in order, change in the form of a new challenge. I’ve never been one to do anything by halves so when the thought of a new challenge first crossed my mind I went all guns blazing and threw my hat in the ring for a place in the London Marathon. Of course I was never expecting to actually get in… so now, here I am, gearing up for the biggest physical challenge of my life, with only myself to blame!

On Sunday 26th April 2020 I will be running 26.2 miles across the capital in aid of a wonderful local charity that has touched the lives of many people I know - the North Devon Hospice. This charity provides amazing support to individuals and their families during life-threatening illness, all free of charge. It will be an honour to fundraise on their behalf, and I’m sure it’ll take the edge off the gruelling punishment I’ll be putting myself through.

As a beaten up, overweight ex Barnstaple rugby player I won’t be aiming for a specific time. My only goals will be to raise as much money as possible for the Hospice and finish ahead of that bloke ‘running’ the marathon in a diving suit, the latter of which could be a challenge in itself!

So, with just over 6 months to go until d-day, I’m starting the fundraising now and, with your help, am fully expecting to meet and surpass my target with ease… thanks in advance, and over to you!

Fast forward 2 1/2 years. A COVID pandemic that shook the world and 2 children that have changed our lives for the better. I have 6 weeks to go before the big day 🥵 Training has been harder, hotter and the body is a little more worn out! The next 3 weeks of training are going to be tough both physically and mentally, but I am determined to get over that line.
