Story
I am appealing to anyone and everyone, who appreciates when a good cause needs help, to get behind my sponsored bike ride to help me raise funds towards keeping our church building going.
Read on below about why this is a good cause, but first, some background...
We need to spend £180k to repair our church buildings. I am hoping to raise £500 towards this which HSBC will match £4£ with their Community Support programme, so with Gift Aid, hope to make a little, but still meaningful, dent in the tin).
St Mary's Church in Hexham, isn't just a place of worship. I hadn't realised just how much good work St Mary's does for and in the community, that is separate to what would be assumed is the otherwise sole function of a church. Just a few examples of how this is a centre for helping our community, include the 4000+ annual home visits to the sick, elderly & vulnerable in our society, supporting the local food bank, hosting the Stroke Association and Parkinson's Association, as said, but to mention but a few.
The fabric of the building is in a bad way - I hope the appeal is received okay by everyone - one doesn't have to be religious to support something that does good for the community, so fingers crossed.
Pray for good weather too :-)
