Landy Rally 2010 · 10 September 2010
3 Men 1 Landrover 9 Countries covering approximately 3,500 miles in 11 days (10 September until 19 September)
We are going to undertake the challenge of trying to drive a 1997 short wheel based landrover through most of Europe raising money and awareness for the Midlands Air Ambulance.
From France, we will be travelling to Belgium through to Maesstricht in Holland where we meeting up with the other people who are stupid enough to take part in this challenge. We will then drive towards Germany through the Black Forest, Austria up into the Alps, down into Italy, across the Med into Andorra via the Smugglers Trail, through Pyrennes into Spain driving through a dust bolt back into France via the Massif Central heading back to Calais. It costs approximately £6 million a year to keep the ambulance and the crew airbourne. They receive no Government or National Lottery funding and rely on the many charity events which take place.
They have three Air Ambulances, covering a area of 6,000 square miles across six Midland counties. Midlands Air Ambulance carries out approximately 3,500 missions each year and has completed in excess of 30,000 life saving missions since it commenced in 1991. They pride themselves on reaching people within 20 minutes of being airbourne.
As you know we are off roading enthusiasts who have a combined knowledge of 60 years experience. We off road in many different places throughout England and Wales; if it wasn't for the support of the air ambulance being able to reach people in peril many of them wouldn't have received medical assistance in time.
Please give generously - your support will be greatly received.
