Vodafone Foundation Trans-Alp Cycle · 7 September 2022 to 11 September 2022 ·

Vodafone employees are raising £1 million for Vodafone Foundation's Your Planet fund, to help restore the health of the world we live, love and breath. All money raised will support charities using conservation technology to protect our planet.

Story

Hi Everyone, Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

On 7 September 2022 I will start an epic 5 day trans-Alp cycle. The ride starts in in Grenoble and traverses the Western Alps south into France, culminating on the Cote d’Azur in Nice.

The challenge starts in Grenoble, the capital of the Alps for an acclimatisation ride. The route then winds its way South through Grenoble, and heads towards the Lac De Notre Dame, and then climbs the iconic 15k, 21 bend Alpe D’Huez. Continuing to head South through the Alps, riders will be tackling some of the most iconic mountain passes the region has to offer before the long, 115KM+ descent back down to sea level and into the city of Nice.

Famous Tour de France climbs included are:

Alpe D’Huez (1,860M)
Col De Sarenne (1,999M)
Col du Lautaret (2,058M)
Col du Galibier (2,642M)
Col D’Izoard (2,360M)
Cime de la Bonnette (2,860M & highest paved road in France)

As a comparison, Walbury Hill in West Berkshire is 297M. I'd have to ride up that 6 times just to climb Alpe D-Huez! While I do like cycling, I have never been in the Alps or mountains and climbed anything like this. It's going to be a big challenge!

All money raised will go to Vodafone Foundation’s Your Planet campaign, to help protect the world we live, love and breathe. With the health of our planet reaching crisis point, I'm taking a stand to support charities that are tackling biodiversity loss and plastic pollution through wildlife and marine conservation technology respectively. All donations support the work of the Tusk Trust - to help protect Africa's endangered wildlife - and The Ocean Clean-Up - to help remove 90% of floating ocean plastic pollution.

Thank you for your support!
