Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am supporting MASKS (Make A Special Kid Smile).  This is a charity that supports the two special schools in the Vale Federation, Aylesbury Buckinghamshire for children from 3- 19 years old who have a range of complex needs including:

Moderate, severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties
Autism
Communication difficulties
Complex health needs
Physical disabilities
Sensory impairments
Emotional, social and behavioural disorders

I’m aware of the good work it does through friends in the village who have supported MASKS for many years because their child has attended the schools MASKS supports.  MASKS is a small charity which provides the means to enhance the lives of over 300 children who attend the schools.

The schools use the funds raised by MASKS to provide vital equipment and opportunities forthe children that may otherwise be unavailable to them.  The charity aims to help children realise their full potential by providing social experiences which will build their confidence, support their educational advancement and encourage as much future independence as possible.

MASKS charity is an incredible group of selfless, committed people, who are always looking to improve the school experience of the children at the schools. This why I am raising moneyto help them with one of their projects, a Multi-Sensory Playground Development which will be a fantastic resource for the children attending Booker Park School – a special school in Aylesbury for children of primary school age.

The following are specific examples of what funds raised might buy.

Bongo Panel £1095

Glockenspiel Panel £1195

Shaker Panel £1045

Childrenwith special educational needs (“SEN”) often struggle in the classroom environment. Many find it difficult to concentrate, while others find it difficult to write or express themselves. These challenges inevitably affect their engagement with, and understanding of learning. Research shows that children with complex needs particularly those with hearing and visual impairments, those with behaviouraldifficulties or those with conditions such as autism and ADHD respond well to making music, learning about cause and effect through playing with instruments which has a positive result on the children’s learning  capabilities

By using music pupils are taught new skills they can utilise throughout the curriculum, and it can also enhance their communication abilities, language, focus, independence and confidence and ultimately they do what children do best- have fun!
