Story
Sadly, Mum passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday 14th February 2018.
Addenbrooke's Kidney Patients Association (AKPA) was very close to Mum's heart as both Mum and myself were treated for renal failure at Addenbrooke's Hospital. We both did dialysis and had subsequent kidney transplants at Addenbrooke's.
Mum volunteered for AKPA for 15 years. Here is a quote from 'The Newsflash', AKPA's magazine, in 2006:
"During her time on the Committee, Marion held posts critical to the success of AKPA; starting as Committee Secretary, then Vice Chairman, followed by five years as Chairman and latterly Administrative Officer. Her knowledge and expertise enabled the committee to function smoothly and was vital to the successful completion of dozen of important projects, such as the dialysis equipment appeal, dialysis centre televisions and air-conditioning appeal.
Marion was also involved in many important fundraising events including a Golf tournament jointly organised with her husband Michael, as well as many social events such AKPA Christmas Parties and the Summer Barbecue.
Marion’s personal and family experience of dialysis and transplantation gave her the insight into the needs and problems of Kidney patients. She led the AKPA campaign for transplant clinic nurses and the skin cancer screening programme.
