I have been given special permission to take part in the
Manchester Marathon which takes place on 11th October 2020. They have even set
aside a special waiting area at the start for us.

My name is Mark Cowan and I have been Running & Cycling
for charity for many years. This year I have decided to run the Manchester Marathon whilst pushing my son Anthony Cowan in his wheelchair. Anthony is now 22 years old he has Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and is unable to walk. We have enter races together before but over a much shorter distance Parallel London 10K in summer 2017 and Southend Rudolph 5 miles in December 2018.

The wheelchair including Anthony weighs in at a Hefty 92 Kilo’s this is going to be a tough challenge. I have run over 40 Marathons all over the world including London, New York, Chicago and Loch Ness. I have cycled several 100 mile races and sportive’s around the UK. Triathlons are my favourite challenge and I completed Ironman Wales last year as well as several middle distance events. This year I will also be competing in Escape from Alcatraz swimming across San Francisco Bay then cycling the incredibly hilly streets then running up a large hill.

My training is going well and I can be seen running along Southend Seafront push a wheelchair with 75 kilos of sand strapped to the seat.
I run for Benfleet Running Club and my nick name is of course FORREST. If you see me training on the seafront just shout out “Run Forrest Run” I will need the support this is my toughest challenge yet.

Anthony has had a Whizz-kidz Wheelchair since he was 5 this
charity has support him throughout his childhood and this is our way of saying thank you.
