Story
Hi everyone. My name's Mark and I'm going to be running the London Marathon in a few months' time. I'm excited and nervous. I ran it in 2016 with my brother and I ran it alone way back in 1986. I was originally booked on the 2020 race but we all know what happened there. I wanted to run for my dad, who was seriously ill at the time, for Phab Kids. He was a very strong and active man who was struck down with polio in his early twenties. This left him with a right leg that operated at 10% of its power but never stopped him trying to carry on with all his favourite activities. Except running, which was just not feasible. Sadly, Dad passed away a few months later so it feels strange now, more than two years later, finally getting to participate in the rescheduled event. I know it's going to be tough for me mentally but I hope to keep going, from start to finish, and keep running for the whole 26 miles. I'm aiming to raise a hundred pounds for every mile I run! Well, why not? I'm sure, with your help, I can do it.
Phab brings together disabled and non-disabled people of all ages to make more life together – with exciting and challenging holiday projects for disabled and disadvantaged children and young adults, wheelchair accessible holiday homes, and 140 Phab Clubs across England and Wales with 8,000 members.
My dad was a volunteer for Phab many years ago, helping the kids enjoy a bit of adventure and rough ´n tumble. I know he was happy to hear I was doing this for them.
Thank you for supporting Phab and Phabkids – with your help we can make a real and lasting difference to the lives of so many more children, young people and adults with disabilities, to their families and to local communities.
