I’ve been lucky enough to have been given a place to run the 2019 Virgin London Marathon for Princess Alice Hospice.

The hospice are an amazing charity close to my heart and with 2019 being the five year Anniversary of my mum receiving care from the hospice, it’s an honour to help try and raise some money and try to give back a small amount for what they done for my family and I.

Many people think that hospices are all about dying. Princess Alice disagree. They believe that end of life care is about helping people live every moment to the full in comfort and dignity. It’s about creating a space whether in their Hospice or at home where families can enjoy special moments and create precious memories together. Their care is spread across Middlesex, Surrey and South West London.

It costs over £9.9 million a year for the hospice to provide their high quality specialist free care, they provide home visits, support for family, and therapy sessions as well as many other services.

£12.89 could pay for a child to attend one monthly session of the hospice Dovetail group, which is for those who have recently been bereaved and offers emotional support

£30.06 could pay for one hour of care for a patient at the hospice in-patient unit, where troublesome symptoms can be addressed that are difficult to treat at home

£49.92 could pay for a complementary therapy session for two patients

£68.80 could pay for a visit from a community based Princess Alice nurse to a patient’s home. This gives specialist advice and support to help patients and their families to cope with the physical, emotional, social and practical difficulties that people face when they have a life limiting illness.

You all know how hard it will be for me to stay out of the pub for the early morning runs on weekends but I want to raise as much money as possible whilst at the same time paying tribute to my mum.
