Leukaemia patient Mark Fitzgerald is organising a number of fundraising events throughout 2019 to support the doctors and nurses who treat him at the Centre for Clinical Haematology in Birmingham.

Story

Mark was first diagnosed with blood cancer on the 4th November 2012 and had nearly twelve months of intense treatment at the Centre for Clinical Haematology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham before undergoing a bone marrow transplant in September 2013. During that time he missed one son's wedding day and the other's 18th Birthday. He had a transplant which put him into remission for nearly 6 years. This year, the illness has returned in the form of mylodysplastic syndrome and rather than let that get him down he's turning that news into something positive by raising funds for a fantastic charity, Cure Leukaemia. Every penny raised will go towards supporting the doctors and nurses that have treated and still treat Mark. His Professor, Charlie Craddock CBE, believes effective treatments for all blood cancers can be found within 25 years. I hope doing our bit speeds that process up. Thank you
