Story

As some people know, my brother Steven tragically passed away in Ipswich hospital on the 10th February after contracting Covid-19 and his funeral took place on the 23rd March.

In November 2020 he was diagnosed with Lung cancer and had been receiving chemotherapy which was going very well and it was looking likely that he would overcome the cancer and like millions of others be able to live a relatively normal life for many more years to come but following some breathing difficulties at home he was admitted to hospital where a Covid test was done and came back as positive. Despite the wonderful care he received in hospital the Covid infection took this wonderful man in a matter of days.

During the time he was receiving the cancer treatment, himself and his wife Jean had the most valuable and loving support from Mcmillian Nurse’s and it’s because of them and the care and compassion they show is the reason I’m doing this fundraising.

I recently came across a photo of this tattoo online and I felt a connection to it with my brother when he lost his hair due to the chemotherapy and we had spoken about needing a lawnmower last summer to cut our hair if we had another lockdown. I know my brother would of found this quite humorous so in his memory I’m going to have it done.

I made an enquiry at a couple of tattoo studios and following exchanging messages, Paul at Lucky 13 Tattoos in St Margaret’s Street Ipswich has very generously offered to do it free of charge to support this worthy cause and with Ciro of Fircroft Hairdressing offering to do the haircut free of charge I truly can’t thank them both enough as this enables me to maximise any fundraising.

The tattoo studio is likely to reopen on the 12th April and once they have done their outstanding appointments they will call me in to get this done.

I know everyone’s financial situation is tough right now with what’s been happening over the past 12 months but if anyone could dig deep it truly would be very much appreciated to support such a wonderful charity in helping many others as they did with my family at such a difficult time.

(There is of course, the fact that I will have to walk around with this on my head for the rest of my life so that’s got to be worth a couple of quid)

This just giving page is set up directly to Mcmillian so they will receive the funds immediately after each donation and I will of course update the page once I’ve had the tattoo done.

Not only a tribute to my dear brother but in some way this represents everyone that has had to go through the heartache of losing their hair because of chemotherapy.
This is for all of you. Stay strong ❤️

Thank you so much for taking time in reading this and much love.

Mark (Flewy)
