During treatment for clinical depression, Sam West committed suicide at the age of 15. While a tragedy for his family, this reflects the growing challenge of mental health among children and young adults in the UK. The Foundation promotes awareness, diagnosis and treatment of mental health

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The running bit has always been my least favourite part of any triathlon so I thought I ought to have a go at least once at a Half Marathon.

I’m running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on October 13th and  I’m aiming to raise as much as I can for The Sam West Foundation.

Sam and his brother Ben, were both at Cranbrook School with our children and after Sam tragically took his own life in 2018,  the Foundation was set up by the West family to raise money which will go towards funding various initiatives that promote awareness, diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues affecting children, young adults and their families. The foundation will also work to promote music and the arts in schools as a way for students to find an escape, subjects that Sam was very passionate about.

Among teenagers, rates of depression and anxiety have increased by 70% in the last past 25 years.

Please be as generous as you can.
