PSC Support is the only UK charity solely dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by PSC. PSC has no known cause or cure. PSC patients urgently need a treatment that works. Please help us to fund vital medical research and provide information and support to PSCers and families.

Story

This June I am taking on an Ironman 70.3 to raise funds for PSC support.

In the summer of 2016 my Max was diagnosed with Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), auto immune hepatitis and colitis. PSC is a rare immune-mediated disease of the bile ducts with no medical treatment.

Max is a happy friendly teenager who is full of life but its impossible to see what to the future holds, the rate of progression is unknown and varies between sufferers. There is no treatment and no cure for this condition although there is medication that helps to control some of the symptoms.  Sadly it's recently been discovered that PSC is now the number one indicator of liver transplant among patients with autoimmune diseases, despite affecting only 80 in 1 million people in the UK.

It's no easier writing about this now as it was a year ago, one way I can help is to raise funds for research that will one day find treatment and hopefully a cure.

PSC is referred to as ‘the last black box in hepatology’ because there is so much we don’t yet understand about this complex condition, despite impressive research progress in the last decade. People with PSC urgently need a treatment that works.Donating to PSC Support means you are helping us fund more ground-breaking research projects. The next one could be the breakthrough that people with PSC have been waiting for.#LetsBeatPSC

An Ironman 70.3 is a triathlon consisting of a 1.2 mile (1.9km) swim followed by a 56 mile (90.1km)bike ride then a 13.1 mile (21km) half marathon, all to be completed within 8.5 hours.
