Thank you for visiting my page.
As the pandemic lingers on, life has become hugely restricted for everyone. It has left a lot of people isolated from loved ones and in a stressful situation. However, that is actually business as normal for seafarers. What has changed for us? A lack of shore leave and the inability to crew change.
Many seafarers now face their second Christmas at sea, with some reporting being on the same ship for 18 months straight. Remembering that the average work week for most seafarers is 70-84 hours without weekends, trip extensions really start to take their tole. I have personally seen grown men cry; one unable to bury his mother, multiple completely miss the births of their children and a general feeling of hopeless when governments make it nearly impossible to return home. The crew change crisis has been largely ignored by media outlets, however it it is a serious issue affecting the lives of the 1.5million seafarers, who are ensuring that the 90% of world trade which seafarers deliver continues.
The Mission to Seafarers have always provided support for seafarers in need but are now are more essential than ever. Please dig as deep as you can (times are hard) and support the MtS.
The Challenge:
Quite simple really - we have a treadmill on board my ship and I have a fitness tracker.
I will be running 4 marathons (169km) over the course of January. That works out to be about 5.5km per day, which might not seem like much for some but remember I’m very fat!
Same rules as all my challenges, I will post daily updates on Facebook to annoy you all, in addition, I will personally donate 20 pounds per kg lost!
UPDATE!!!
I did not expect to reach £1000, so thank you all so much. So seeing as you’ve all raised the stakes, I better do the same. 200km in a month!
Thank you so much I’m advance.
