We believe every blind veteran should be able to lead the life they choose. At Blind Veterans UK we’re one, transformational team. We provide rehabilitation, training, practical advice and emotional support. Together we can help rebuild lives.

Story

I will be running a number of Half and Full Marathons in memory of captain Stephen Healey. The twist, i shall be wearing boots and carrying 44lbs of Military kit.

The reason for me selecting Blind Veterans UK is a simple one. On returning from Op Herrick 11 in 2010 where some of our soldiers were injured, they benfitted from the support that Blind Veterans UK (St Dunstans at the tim) charity was providing.

Captain Stephen Healey and other colleagues set up a number of chairty events to raise important funding and awareness for the charity. Captain Stephen Healey was a dedicated individual and just 3 weeks prior to deploying to afghanistan this year on Op Herrick 16 he conducted a charity blindfolded walk from Chester to the centre in Llandudno.

Sadly, Stephen was killed by an IED in Afghanistan on 26th May 2012. So in his memory, i shall be conducting a number of full and half marathons in military kit carrying 44Lbs in weight. I will still attempt to gain respectable times in which ever i compete. The events i choose will also be in support of Stephens partner Thea davies who has been doing a fantastic job of raising money in her 415 mile challenge
