Katie Piper, a beautiful model and TV presenter, suffered an callous acid attack in 2008 which destroyed her face and her confidence.
Since the attack, and after 40 operations on her face, Katie has taken small steps towards building a new life for herself with help from family and friends. Katie has set up a charity, The Katie Piper Foundation, which aims to support people of all ages, who are suffering mentally and physically, from burns and scars. The vision of the foundation is to create an advanced burn and scar management and rehabilitation clinic in the UK accessible to anybody who would benefit from specialised treatments. As some of you will know I have been working on the follow-up series about Katie for Channel 4. Since entering the Dublin Marathon, I have met so many inspiring people who are living their lives facing adversity on a daily basis; from endless medication rituals to struggling with the outside world, where people can be utterly cruel and ignorant. I figured since I was going to run 26.2 miles already, I would take advantage of this opportunity to raise AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE for the Katie Piper Foundation. Please show your support for me in donating; your donation means more than just helping Katie, you are also showing your public support for people suffering from disfigurement. Something which will mean an enormous amount to the beneficiaries of the Katie Piper Foundation.
