Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So I’m back doing another personal challenge and another attempt on the fitness trail.. and yet another attempt to raise a few quid for charity.
After doing Brum half marathon last year, I decided to take on the 10k in May this year (possibly the half again in October and to beat that time)
A couple of years ago I had my own strain of vasculitus and the strain that is known as Henoch Schoelin Purpora.. yes it’s as bad as it sounds!! (Don’t google it as the pics will be horrible!)
Effectively this meant that my immune system was attacking itself for a couple of months which caused several holes in my legs as my skin was burning itself. This was massively painful through the whole process and as it healed caused several ulcers on my legs..this set me back massively when I had it, to the point where I struggled to walk about freely or even stand up at times without being in agony. Eventually it meant that I had to have both of my legs strapped up and dressings changed every 2 days for over a month.
I’ve still got a lot of scarring on my calves from this but fingers crossed that it won’t return as 95% of the time it’s a one time illness and if a recurrence then it shouldn’t be as bad as the first!
Anyway, I’ve got about 10-11 weeks to try and get somewhere near fit again to enable me to complete the challenge in a reasonable time. I haven’t actually done a run since the half marathon in October so it should be quite a challenge! As per my last attempt, I’ll be just happy to finish it but the aim will be to do it somewhere around 85-90 mins.. (would prob take me about 2 hours right now!)
Thanks in advance
Mark
