Mental wellbeing affects us all and is one of the major public health challenges of this century. From children's mental health to how acts of kindness affect our wellbeing, our research is making cutting-edge discoveries and giving new hope.

Story

In 2020 I will be running the following marathons - 5th April Manchester , 19th April Brighton and the 31st May 26 times around Plumpton Racecourse. This year I will be running to support research into mental health at the University of Sussex. At Brighton I will be joined by the dynamic duo of Linda Elizabeth Hall Lawton and Fiona Williams.

The first fund raiser is a quiz at the Caxton on Thursday 27th Feb.  It would be great to see you there.

Mental wellbeing affects us all and is one of the major public health challenges of this century. From examining children's mental health to how acts of kindness affect our wellbeing, research at Sussex is making cutting-edge discoveries and giving people around the world new hope. For example, Professor Gordon Harold (Professor of Psychology at Sussex) has dismantled the argument that genetic factors are the primary influence on children's mental health and development. The implications of this for vulnerable children and families are huge, as it stresses the importance of the family environment in supporting children's wellbeing. To help everyone living with mental health problems, we need to build a global community to influence public policy; and make it one of the priorities in public health funding considerations. We are working hard to address these issues. Your help will help us to take this vital work forward. Thank you so much for your support.

Sussex has challenged convention since our foundation in 1961. From modernist architecture on the edge of a rural national park, to our progressive academics and inspiring students, to the very tone of our conversations, our expressions of radicalism and critical thinking. We dare to be different.
