Story

Ever seen the stone axe "Icknield Way" signs in Linton and wondered what they were? I did.

The Icknield Way is part of the oldest road in Britain, running from Knettishall Heath in Norfolk, straight through the middle of Linton, to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire. There it picks up the 87 mile long Ridgeway prehistoric road along the chalky spine of England to Avebury in Wiltshire, site of one of the greatest neolithic henges in the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Well, what else was there to do but walk from Linton to Avebury, as prehistoric man would have done. 155 miles in 4 days between 15-18 May, carrying all my own kit and camping (because prehistoric man would not have been able to check into a Comfort Inn). Someone pointed out that neolithic man would not have had goretex or vibram soles but a line had to be drawn and walking barefoot, wearing only a chamois leather was the wrong side of that line!

I ran out of time to create a blog so Claire will be adding updates and photo's to this page on a daily basis as we go along.

You may know that the Linton Infants School PTFA (registered charity number 1116790) are currently raising funds for much needed improvements to the school. Every penny you give will go to the PTFA via the Village College.
