Running the National Trail · 8 May 2015

At the Scottish Wildlife Trust, we deliver compelling advocacy, practical conservation and inspiring engagement activities, as well as managing over 100 wildlife reserves. We champion Scotland's wildlife in pursuit of our vision of healthy, resilient ecosystems across the country's land and seas.

Story

Starting on the 8th May we are attempting to run the newly established 864KM Gore Tex® Scottish National Trail from Kirk Yetholm to Cape Wrath. To our knowledge no one has run the entire trail in a single effort yet. The trail takes in some of the best and most challenging landscapes Scotland has to offer; from the rolling Borders hills to the untamed wilderness of the Cairngorms and northwest. The route is not entirely way marked so we will be relying on our navigation skills as well as our physical fitness. We aim to average running 60KM per day, although distances will vary depending on road access and recovery days. We have put together a provisional 17day plan that we shall aim to stick to, all going well. Each day we will carry packs containing food, water, clothes and emergency gear.
