Story

Update

I did it! I successfully completed the Cotswold Triathlon yesterday. I finished in 115th place (out of 478 finishers) 1 hour 12 minutes and 13 seconds.

A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored me so generously. If you haven't made a donation yet please read for information on what I did and why.

Thank you all very much for your support.

Mark.

Thank you for coming this far, please read on for details of what I am planning to do and why, and when you get to the end please do press the "Donate now" button in support of CCS Adoption.

What's The Challenge?

To complete the Cotswold Triathlon sprint course on the 5th of September 2010, this will involve a 750m swim across a lake, a 20km cycle ride on the roads and a 5km run through the cotswolds.

So what's the big deal, people do this sort of thing all the time, don't they?

Just 6 months ago I could never have dreamed of taking on a challenge like this. Weighing over 20st (280lbs) and not able to run even 1km without stopping to catch my breath. I have worked hard over the last six months losing a quarter of my body weight and started doing regular exercise. But a triathlon of any type is never easy, they are the ultimate multi-disciplinary athletic sport and are a serious challenge for anyone. I could now complete each of the swim, ride or run on its own. The question is, can I do all three, in one day, back to back, in a race, just over 2 months from now ?

Whether you think I can, or not, please read on - it's for a very good cause.

Why I am doing this?

To raise as much money as I can for CCS Adoption.

CCS Adoption is a small Bristol based adoption charity that works tirelessly to find families and homes for vulnerable children. Many of the children they work with have emotional, physical or learning difficulties and have had complex and difficult early life experiences. CCS has particular skill in finding families for sibling groups and older children.  They support adopters and children thoughout the adoption process and offer life long support to families.

As many as 4,000 children in the UK are waiting for adoptive families, and the work done by CCS Adoption can make a huge difference to their lives.

The thought of all that money for CCS Adoption will be a big motivation, so please dig deep!

Thank you - Mark.
