Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Before I tell you why I'll let you know a little bit about this jog I'm going on.

The Discovery Channel call this the hardest Ultra Marathon in the world. 6 Marathons in 6 Days across the Sahara Dessert. Now to most the sound of that is terrifying. How about I throw in the fact that on the 4th day, after already completing 3 marathons, those lovely organisers have thrown in 2 marathons on the 4th day. So now most of you are shaking in your boots at the thought or even thinking that this PTSD lark does make you do crazy things.

Add into this rationed water, carrying all food and equipment on your back for 6 days and the MILD temperatures of 50+ degrees C.

I must sound really crazy now. Read on a bit and you will see exactly why.

Having suffered PTSD for 28 years with no help or support I was extremely fortunate to find Walking With The Wounded. They organised the best help and clinical therapy for me and were with me every step of the way through some very dark times.

It is very difficult to describe the pain of reliving a trauma and the hard road to recovery but without this charity I would not be here today and my 2 sons would go through life knowing they couldn't do anything to help. We lose service personnel through suicide every week and family's have to live with that pain for the rest of their lives. It does not have to be like this.

PTSD is a silent killer. This amazing charity can put you in touch with those that can help ease that pain. With their incredible support our forces personnel can look forward to a brighter future.

It is not only the veterans themselves that suffer but their families, their friends and all around them. To be told you need  anger management or to snap out it, their are people worse off than you, only adds to the depression, the distress.

We often forget that these individuals have put their lives on the line to defend not only our country, but individuals all around the world. They do it without hesitation, without question and yet so many come home with invisible scars that are hard to heal.

2 years on and I am extremely happy. Facing life with a purpose, a realisation that I am actually worthy and I do have a future. Never raising my voice in 2 years or losing my temper. Yes there are hard days but I have the tools to get through them.

My son's have seen their dad go through so many low points and episodes of severe depression and isolation. These 2 boys were there at the finish line of my first marathon to see me over and have been with me every step of the way, providing constant support. No child should have to support their father, it's the other way around, but they now have their dad the way he should be. Happy, full of life and energy and most of all supportive and inspiring.

Help another father or mother achieve the level of contentment and happiness I have. Help children to get the parents every child should have.

Please help others to a future that is worth living. Whether it is 50p or £50 every single penny raised will help not just the individual but all those around them.

I thank everyone of you who have read my page and supported my efforts to help so many others.
