Manchester Marathon 2021 · 10 October 2021 ·

Hope Animal Shelter has been dedicated to helping poorly, injured and abandoned pets for over 30 years. We have long-term animals who will stay with us for the rest of their lives as they cannot be rehomed for a variety of reasons and animals which are waiting for a loving home. We have mainly dogs and cats but also have rabbits and ferrets from time to time as well as other species. Our charity is based in the Loftus area of Redcar & Cleveland, in the North East of England. We are dedicated to rescuing and re-homing stray and abandoned animals of all kinds, but if it wasn’t for the generosity of our supporters we would not exist. With tough economic times and an increase in animal abandonments we need your support more than ever. All our work is done at a huge cost with no funding other than your generous donations and no matter how small, these are all welcome. All of the money that is received goes towards helping the animals.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In February of 2019 my brother Ian, sister in law Emma and Nephew Ethan tragically lost Ellie at the age of just 17. It tore my family apart. In the 30 or so months since I have learned more about loss, grief, love, hope, family and friendship than in the 48 years prior.     As a small way of remembering Ellie I decided to do something I'd pledged never to do, run a marathon. Signing up for the one in Manchester in early 2020 my training began for a race that was to be cancelled 3 times due to covid . The race finally goes ahead on Sunday 10th October. I have chosen to try to raise a little bit of money for a small local charity which was close to Ellie's heart, Hope animal shelter at Loftus and I would be most greatful if you could make a small donation via my just giving page.

The long preparation for the race has not been easy , however running has become my therapy, I would recommend putting on a pair of trainers and dragging oneself out for a jog and ponder, no matter how fowl the weather to anybody.

I'll run the 26.2 on Sunday 10th of October to the very best of my ability, it will be the longest distance that I have ever run in my life, but it will be my pleasure to take all of the aches, pains and the mental challenge in memory of my beautiful niece Ellie and for the amazing Dad,Mam and brother she leaves behind who everyday inspire me with the way that they continue to live their lives.

Run your own race

With love

Mark
