The Marathon may be on the 23rd April but I actually started running the Marathon in January when I started my training program. This year I have run over 600km and maintained my goal of 5 runs a week for 15 weeks.
Some highlights of the training:
- I participated in the Wokingham Half Marathon with Andy and achieved my PB of 1hr 45mins
- The longest run I have complete so far is 30k and recorded a time of 2hrs 47mins
- No major injuries so far, one toe nail has gone black so far, I have been battling shin splints in the right leg and my IT Band is seriously tight so caused some issues with my left knee. Apart from that the body has held out pretty well
- Anyone looking to run a Marathon I highly recommend the Nike Running Club app that free and offers guides runs. Having the Nike Running coach talking me though my runs has improved my focused, my technique and kept me sane during many hours of running
My goal is to run a sub 4hr Marathon on the day. So far I am just about on track but when I got past 30km I am entering the unknown :)
