Story

Thank you for supporting my fundraising.

Macmillan Cancer Support is here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support.  I am sure all of us know a parent, partner, friend or loved one who has been taken by the disease.  In my own family, my mother died prematurely of an aggressive cancer and, more recently, my cousin James Recknell, a brilliant musician and organist.  Each time Macmillan have been there.  We could not have managed without them.

To mark my sixth decade, I am planning to learn, and play, all 46 chorale preludes in Bach's Orgelbuchlein across the year, starting and finishing on my birthday. Bach originally planned to write 164 such preludes, marking every season of the year, although in the event he only completed 46.  So far as possible, I will play each prelude either in concert or at a church service as close as I can to the relevant Sunday or feast.  Where that is not possible, I will post the prelude on You Tube.  I will keep this page updated as to my progress throughout the year.

Thanks for reading this, perhaps listening to my Bach, and for making a contribution.  You might be wondering  how the money is used.  As a rough guide, £31 will pay for a Macmillan nurse for 1 hour.  £35 will pay for a support worker for 2 hours.  £42 will enable a patient to have a personalised assessment and care plan prepared, whilst £60 will enable 20 patients to take part in a guided mindfulness practice.  But the exact amount doesn't matter;  what I can say is that every contribution, however small, is valued and brings care and support when it is most needed.  Thank you so much for your support.
